CHECK THE APP PEOPLE INSTALL

Ready for the real world? Test it there.

Android app testing checks whether the application works across its important user journeys, supported devices and release conditions. We investigate crashes, confusing behaviour and failures that only appear outside the development environment.

ANDROID APP TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE

A working debug build is only one part of the picture.

An app can run well from Android Studio and behave differently after it is packaged for release. Signing, optimisation, service configuration and missing resources can all affect the installed build.

We start with the actual failure: the build, device, steps and available crash information. Then we reproduce the issue where possible, fix the cause and check the affected journey again.

Functional testing

Check launch, navigation, forms, primary features and device back behaviour.

Failure and state testing

Exercise denied permissions, lost connectivity, empty data and interrupted tasks.

Release verification

Check the agreed release artefact, configuration and distribution route, as access allows.

A PRACTICAL APPROACH

A fix should come with a way to verify it.

Useful QA records explain what was checked, what failed and what happened after a change. Device coverage and test depth are agreed for each project. No finite test plan can promise that software will never crash, but it can reveal the problems that are most likely to affect your users.

What the work can include

  • Reproduction steps and relevant device details
  • Core workflow and regression checks
  • Release-specific configuration review
  • A record of fixes, checks and known limitations

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before we get started.

A little clarity before the first conversation.

Why does my app work in debug but crash in release?

Possible causes include code shrinking, signing differences, service configuration or missing release resources. The crash trace and installed release build are needed to identify the actual cause.

Can you investigate an app already on Google Play?

Yes. Share the affected version, device information, reproduction steps and crash reports you are authorised to provide. Source access may be needed for a fix.

Do you test every Android device?

No. We agree representative devices, Android versions and important scenarios for the project, then record the coverage and any remaining limits.
