Choose your ad placements around the task, not the empty space

Start an Android ad plan by mapping the user’s main task. Reserve stable space for banners, consider full-screen ads at natural transitions and make rewarded ads an explicit choice. A failed ad request should leave the useful part of the app available.

An empty area of a screen is not automatically a good place for an advertisement. It might be breathing room around an important control, or the space where a keyboard, status message or loading indicator needs to appear.

Look at the journey before the screen

Write down what the user is trying to do and the steps involved. Mark where the task starts, where it requires concentration and where it genuinely finishes. That map makes it easier to discuss an ad without disrupting the action the app exists to support.

A file export, for example, already asks the person to make selections and wait for a result. Advertising decisions need to account for that sequence, including what happens if processing fails.

Give each format a clear role

Banners need dedicated space that does not crowd controls. Interstitials need appropriate breaks in the flow. Rewarded ads need a benefit the user can understand and choose. Native placements still need to be recognisable as advertising.

Google’s Android interstitial documentation recommends natural transition points and explains implementation considerations. Use the documentation for the format being added, and check the policies that apply to the actual app and audience.

Design the unavailable-ad state

Consider a slow connection, no ad fill or a user closing the ad. Decide what the app should do in each case before implementation. A blank loading layer that never goes away is an app problem, even if an external request caused it.

For a rewarded placement, explain the condition clearly and handle the reward callback correctly. Do not present a reward as earned before the required completion event has occurred.

Test the integration, then review the experience

Use test ads or configured test devices during development. Check navigation around the placement, loading failures and return to the application. Confirm the applicable consent and privacy options as part of the release configuration.

After release, revenue is only one part of the picture. Feedback, task completion and the frequency of interruptions can reveal whether a placement is damaging the reason people opened the app.

Our AdMob integration service covers the placement plan, implementation and the checks agreed for your product.
